Asbury Shorts, New York City’s longest running short film exhibition, returns to the Rosendale Theatre. The Rosendale Theatre and Ulster County Tourism are co-presenting this special “concert” of award-winning short films. Radio personality and actress Kimberly Kay will be serving as the show’s Guest Host.

The Asbury Short Film Concert combines classic, award winning shorts with new international festival honorees, creating a rare opportunity for audiences to see world-class short films on the big screen… in a real theatre… rather than a smart phone, computer or iPad. Academy Award nominated director Jason Reitman (JUNO, Up in the Air, Thank You for Smoking and most recently, Young Adult) calls Asbury Shorts: “The best short film show I’ve ever seen.” The fast-paced, highly entertaining evening features the best in live action comedy, drama and outstanding animation. Highlights of the June 14th show include: “A Poet Long Ago” from acclaimed feature film and television commercial director Bob Giraldi and written by famed author Pete Hamill.  This short film stars Steve Schirripa (HBO”s “The Sopranos”) and Boris McGiver (Netflix “House of Cards,” HBO’s “The Wire,”  &“Person of Interest” on the CBS TV Network) as two former grammar school classmates from the 1970’s who meet by chance and reminisce about much younger days back in Brooklyn opening up some old wounds.   This film was just awarded “Best Narrative Short Film” at The 12th Garden State Film Festival in Atlantic City.
“Local Commercial” is a spoof of those local law firm TV commercials broadcast in the wee hours of the morning.  John Ratzenberger (“Cliff the Mailman” on the iconic NBC TV comedy series “Cheers”) stars as the owner of a law firm who hires a veteran movie director to create a new television commercial for his company. “Local Commercial” was directed by Richard Dobbs who has helmed over 30 episodes of the NBC TV network series “Law & Order,” and “Law and Order: Special Victims Unit.”  Mr. Dobbs won “Best Director” for this film at The Boston International Film Festival.

“Globe Trot” is the latest short film project from acclaimed independent filmmaker Mitchell Rose. Mr. Rose teamed with choreographer Bebe Miller to create this international crowd-sourced dance film.  “Globe Trot” will be making its New York City premiere. This short film was just awarded First Prize at WorldFest in Houston, Texas as well as “Audience Award” at The ShortWaves Film Festival in Poland and “Best Experimental Film” at The Crossroads Film Festival.

The Asbury Short Film Concert has been presented at: The Museum of Fine Arts Boston, The Lake Shore Theatre in Chicago, Summer Stage in Central Park, The Director’s Guild Theater in Manhattan, The AERO Theatre in Santa Monica, CA, Royal Festival Hall in London, U.K., Summer Stage in Central Park and the Leminske Theater in Berlin, Germany to name just a few of the prestigious venues where audiences have enjoyed the world’s best short films. Guest Hosts Edie Falco, Adrian Grenier, Olympia Dukakis and Richard Belzer are just some of the celebrities who have graced the Asbury NY stages This will be the 4th presentation of an Asbury Shorts film concert at The Rosendale Theatre.

The guest host of the 33rd Asbury Short Film Concert will be Kimberly Kay, who is an actress, comedian, radio personality and wine lover.  She can be heard daily delivering entertainment reports on 97.7 FM (Mix 97) and mornings alongside co-host Mark Bolger.
